VITTLES FOR VETS

What We Do
Qualifying Veterans receive a $50 grocery gift card on a weekly basis. ln order to qualify, Veterans must be meet income guidelines and fill out a non-invasive application form. Veterans must also be drug and alcohol free, and have received an “other than dis-honorable" discharge from the military.
How Does it Work?
The program strives to ensure recipients utilize the gift card for nutritious foods such as fresh produce, dairy, meat, etc. Junk food, including chips, soda, and pastries are forbidden. A zero-tolerance policy also applies to alcohol and tobacco. Purchase of alcohol and tobacco will result in automatic termination from the program with N0 possibility for reconsideration. Veterans enrolled in the program must return the grocery receipt and the used gift card to Vittles for Vets in a provided self-addressed, stamped envelope. Upon inspection of the receipt to ensure food guidelines were followed, a new card will automatically be issued. The Veteran will continue to receive grocery gift cards until the Veteran feels our assistance is no longer needed. Proof of financial status will be required on a yearly basis. The annual cost of lending a "hand up" is $2,600 per enrolled Veteran, up to $5,200 depending on household size. Vittles for Vets relies solely on the generosity of donations to provide this valuable service. Vittles for Vets will never turn away a qualified Veteran.
