Approximately 59,000 servicemen and women serve in the U.S. Special Operations Forces enterprise across the world - forming the Tip of the Spear of the U.S. military. They are selfless, servant-leaders who operate in complex dynamic team environments to achieve no-fail missions.
Despite being the highest-performing veterans transitioning out of military service, many have struggled through underemployment, unemployment, and unhappiness. Being a member of an elite military unit such as a Green Beret, a Ranger, a SEAL, a Marine Raider, a Combat Controller, a PJ, or a SOF Aviator (to name a few), is synonymous with their identity. For this and other reasons, 91% say transitioning from the military to civilian life is the hardest thing they’ve ever done, harder even than combat deployments and family separation. Furthermore, 97% stated that they do not have the necessary tools to translate their military experience for the private sector and only 13% have a job lined up the day they leave military service.
Over 3 months, Fellows (program participants) in THF’s program benefit from a tailored and comprehensive executive education program, including 1:1 professional coaching and executive mentorships across major industries of business.
The Honor Foundation was founded in 2014 by Joe Musselman after he witnessed the challenges of transitioning Special Operators. Since its inception, THF has consistently grown the throughput of service members in our program and is on course to serve 900 veteran families by the end of 2020 through our four campuses in San Diego, CA, Virginia Beach, VA, Camp Lejeune, NC, and our THF Virtual platform with the following successes:
19% decrease in fear over giving up the security the military offers
42% increased transition readiness confidence
65% improvement in understanding one’s value outside the military
95% Successful Fulfillment within 90 days of separation (employed, starting a business, furthering education, or self-directed sabbatical)
