op BERKELEY MUSIC GROUP - The UC TheatreThe UC Theatre's Concert Career Pathways Education Program (CCP) seeks to remove the barriers of entry into the music business for underserved communities.
We teach young people ages 17 to 25 the technical, creative, and business aspects of concert and event promotion. This nine-month experiential workforce development program is free to the participant and costs The UC theatre $12,500 per intern, our program develops critical and creative thinking skills necessary to become successful in the 21st-century workplace. Our Concert Career Pathway Grads over the past five years come from diverse backgrounds; over 50% are young women, over 70% are people of color, and over half are from low-income households. 80% of our program graduates have been successfully placed in jobs.
Despite the setbacks of the pandemic - we made enormous strides with our Concert Career Pathways (CCP) Education Program. In October 2020, we welcomed a new cohort of 26 CCP participants... and in June 2021 we graduated 23 interns and mentees. Increasing our participant capacity by 20% from the previous year and continuing to strengthen our diversity with participants that are 65% female, 73% people of color (17% Black/African American, 25% Asian, 31% Latinx), 35% LGBTQ , and 62% living below the poverty line.
