Keepin' Our Culture Alive: Cape Verdeans in the United States

"Keepin Our Culture Alive: Cape Verdeans in the US," is a feature-length documentary about how Cape Verdeans are maintaining cultural practices and traditions within the US.

The film will include a brief history of Cape Verdeans in key industries, such as whaling, cranberries, farming, and the military. I will expand into traditions around faith, food, family, festivals as well as Cape Verdeans in the arts.

I will gather first person interviews with community members from Northern and Southern California, as well as the New Bedford and Rhode Island Areas, and will weave the stories together, intertwining photo collections, and Cape Verdean music throughout the years.
