Peer Support Educational Programs

DBSA has been involved with mental health capacity building for 35 years nationwide and in the State of California. We focus on peer support for all ages, particularly addressing mild to severe major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (all types). Countless studies have borne out the fact that peer support is the most effective prevention and early intervention (PEI) approach for anyone living with depression. Young people who often resist efforts of older adults to connect with them on a peer level can benefit from this client/consumer model as part of their overall treatment plan, including support when dealing with co-morbid symptoms such as anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, and substance abuse/addiction. Peer support is also the most cost-effective aspect of mental health treatment. Our Board of Directors and staff will design and implement the program, emphasizing on our young adult members and support team to ensure both age-appropriate and also culturally appropriate content and presentation styles.
DBSA California has demonstrated effectiveness and efficiency in the development of the (1) Selix Soft Skills Suite* for all ages over the past three years, presenting several modules in Los Angeles and Santa Clara Counties with additional plans to customize our programs in 2020 for large metropolitan areas throughout the state.
