In 2009, Life Message began providing the underserved and veteran families of the Northeast Texas Region with access to food security and nutritional excellence along with educational opportunities and veteran services created to strengthen families.
Food assistance programs mean access every week for the 100,000 culturally diverse patrons seen each year that obtain a healthy food security, nutrition education and wellness opportunities. Patrons can receive financial counseling to help change their financial dynamic.
Veterans receive assistance with bereavement, PTSD and addiction additionally helping with utilities, car and home repairs, the VA and unemployment. Educational programming is also available for former military adjusting to civilian life.
Life Message, after researching Texas low-income family dynamics, food and nutrition insecurity statistics with surrounding community leaders, created a network to obtain food and support combined with education for the underserved. Research showed low income families 1) want access to healthy food not plausible with their financial restrictions and search for affordable ways to feed their families healthy food, and 2) low income families seek nutrition education, fitness and weight loss programs not readily available. They search for affordable resources to address poor nutrition, obesity and want options for healthy living, and 3) all generations aspire to seek educational opportunities they can afford or qualify for to stabilize and improve their lifestyle.
In the last 4 years, we have provided 75,000 families over 3,900,000 pounds of food each year. Life Message supplies food for a weekly distribution, a 25 pound 25 meal Boxed Food Program, regional events, churches, schools and other organizations.
