Many people are unaware that the government only provides three flights at the time a service member is injured. Recovery from these serious injuries can last several years, and the financial burden of flying to and from military medical centers can lead to tremendous amounts of stress and financial burden. This is where Luke’s Wings steps in. Luke’s Wings is a non-profit dedicated to the support of American Heroes who have been wounded in battle. Recognizing the need for families to be with their loved ones at such a difficult time, Luke’s Wings provides loved ones with the means to visit during the service member’s hospitalization and rehabilitation. These flights, which are an immediate and invaluable service for the families, allow for visits that not only bring comfort, but play a crucial role in the healing process, both physical and emotional.

Luke’s Wings flies wounded service members and their loved ones in and out of all of the military medical centers in the United States, as well as medical centers serving American service members abroad. Additionally, Luke’s Wings flies wounded warriors home for occasions including, but not limited to, Alive Days (the anniversary day of the wounded warrior’s injury), birthdays and major life events such as weddings and the birth of a child. Luke’s Wings also reunites entire families during the holiday season with the No Soldier Spends Christmas Alone campaign.

In addition to the Wounded Warrior Transportation Assistance Program, Luke’s Wings has two other program lines. In 2011, Luke’s Wings added the Veterans in Hospice Care Transportation Assistance Program, Luke’s Wings, in partnership with the Assisted Living Foundation of America, provides flights for family members of Veterans in hospice care, in an effort to ensure that no Veteran is ever alone during their final days. In 2012, Luke’s became the “go-to” for providing flights for the loved ones of any special operator, including Army Special Forces and Naval Special Warfare, under the Special Operations Command Care Coalition, who are injured on special missions. We service all branches of the military and do not waiver from our core value, which is to support active military members and their loved ones by providing immediate transportation.

Recently, the First Responders and Fallen Officer Transportation Assistance Program has been added to provide emergency travel for the families and loved ones of first responders, following a catastrophic injury or death while serving in line of duty.
