Sitrin's 5th Annual Stars and Stripes Run~Walk

The Sitrin Health Care Center is proud to announce its 5th Annual Sitrin’s Stars and Stripes Run-Walk to support our nation’s heroes on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at SUNY POLY (formerly SUNYIT) in Marcy, NY. This event is proudly sponsored by Adirondack Bank and features a 5K run, wheelchair race, and two-mile walk.

Sitrin invites everyone in the community to participate! Individuals, businesses, and community groups are also encouraged to form teams to walk or run in honor or in memory of a loved one who has answered the ultimate call of duty to serve and protect our freedom.

The entry fee for either the run or walk is $25 per person. Incentives will be available for those raising $125, $250, $500, or $1,000 or more. Individuals who turn in the $25 entry fee will receive a military-inspired commemorative dog tag.

The day’s activities also include an adaptive sports symposium for wounded warriors, which will be held in the Campus Center. Instruction and hands-on training will be offered in the areas of wheelchair basketball, wheelchair road racing, wheelchair curling, and biathlon.

This event is the primary fundraiser for Sitrin's Military Rehabilitation Program, which provides comprehensive care for veterans who have post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injuries, amputations, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic diagnoses, multiple trauma, and other combat-related conditions. This program is unique in that it combines traditional therapy (OT, PT and aquatic therapy, speech pathology and audiology) with biofeedback, individual psychology, group therapy and family integration therapy, adaptive sports, planned helpfulness, massage therapy, physical readiness training, recreational therapy, and equine-assisted therapy. Sitrin’s Military Rehabilitation Program is funded solely by the generosity of the community; Sitrin receives no state or federal aid. Veterans who choose to be treated at Sitrin do not pay anything for their care, not even a co-pay. Community and corporate support contributes to the success of this program.

Thanks to your support of Sitrin’s Military Rehabilitation Program, veterans can begin the process of rebuilding their lives, reuniting with their families, and reentering their communities.
