Friends of Transmitter Park

op FUND FOR THE CITY OF NEW YORK INC

The Friends of WNYC Transmitter Park is an all-volunteer community-based organization, revived in 2016, dedicated to protecting and caring for WNYC Transmitter Park (2012-), in partnership with the local community and NYC Department of Parks and Recreation. The Group's mission is to steward the park, advocate for this sanctuary and refuge for insects, birds, plants and wildlife, and honor it as a sacred common space for ALL who visit this park. With a modest but growing programming calendar, our pollinator gardens are host to passive garden walks, art projects and outreach to local public and private schools.

The site is the former home of WNYC public radio, broadcasting from 1937- 1990. The twin antenni used for “AM” broadcasting were removed, but the iconic art deco transmitter building remains on-site.
Located at the terminus of Greenpoint Avenue and along the East River in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, the park is accessible by mass transit.
