Center for Gun Violence Prevention

op Massachusetts General Hospital

The Center for Gun Violence Prevention is a multidisciplinary initiative at Massachusetts General Hospital dedicated to preventing firearm-related violence and promoting safety in the homes and communities of the patients we serve.

The Center for Gun Violence Prevention focuses on reducing injuries and deaths related to firearms and promoting safety in the home and in the community through clinical care and education, community engagement and research.

Gun Violence is a Public Health Crisis:
The center continues the efforts of the Gun Violence Prevention Coalition, a multidisciplinary group including Mass General health professionals. The group has collaborated closely with several state organizations since 2015 to develop guidance for clinicians to talk to patients about gun safety.

"I have cared for many victims of gun violence and have had to tell mothers about the death of their child—the worst part of my job. Doctors, among others, can no longer stand on the sidelines as so many Americans are killed each year."
Dr. Peter Masiakos
Director of the Pediatric Trauma Service at Mass General for Children
