Pacific Environment works at the intersection of climate action, environmental justice and community resilience. From safeguarding the Arctic to cutting global shipping pollution, our programs span continents and sectors, but each is rooted in the same commitment: an equitable and thriving future for all.
Our programs are led by community voices and guided by deep collaboration, scientific integrity and bold policy advocacy. From coastlines to climate summits, we work across borders to accelerate progress. We focus on four core areas:
Climate & energy
Pacific Environment is working to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by accelerating the shift to electrification, zero-emission fuels and renewable energy. In the maritime shipping sector, we push for clean energy policies at every level, from local ports to the International Maritime Organization, the world’s shipping regulator. Global shipping already accounts for about 3% of global emissions — and that share is growing unless we act now.
Plastic reduction
Working toward a future free of plastic pollution begins long before plastic waste reaches the ocean. At Pacific Environment, we focus on upstream solutions to address pollution at its source and develop sustainable systems for a cleaner, healthier future. We collaborate with local partners and global coalitions to curb plastic production and consumption, advocate for strong regulation of plastics, and build systems that prioritize reuse over single use.
Ocean conservation
Pacific Environment helps preserve ocean biodiversity and champions the coastal communities that depend on healthy seas for their culture, livelihood and survival. Our approach to ocean conservation blends local leadership, regional cooperation and global advocacy. We work to ensure marine protection efforts are equitable, effective and informed by those most impacted. From policy to pilot projects, we focus on long-term resilience for people and the planet.
Arctic protection
The Arctic is warming nearly four times faster than the global average. This region is home to Indigenous communities, iconic wildlife and vast carbon sinks. It sits on the frontlines of climate disruption. Pacific Environment works to protect Arctic waters and support local leadership as they face growing threats from fossil fuel expansion, increased shipping traffic and rising global temperatures.
We believe that global environmental solutions must be grounded in community resilience, strong policy and environmental equity. From reducing plastic waste to transforming shipping, our work connects everyday actions to systemic change, so individuals, businesses and governments can all play a role in building a sustainable future.
