The “Holey Board” which forged the first batch of Tater Tots® in 1953 has been stored
on the Ore-ida Corporation "wall of Fame"; hidden from the public for the past 70 years.
The Grigg Family with cooperation from Simplot Corporation is rewriting the story of Tater Tots and introducing the role of the "Holey Board" with the public for the first time. This tiny potato treat helped Ore-Ida Foods Corp become the #1 frozen food company in the world at that time. Tater Tots® was invented in 1953 by F. Nephi Grigg and Golden
Grigg co-founders of Ore-Ida Foods. In 1965 Heinz Corporation purchase Ore-Ida® brand.
In 1952, brothers Nephi Grigg and Golden Grigg founded a successful produce company named Ore-Ida Foods Corporation. Ore-Ida® produced frozen French fries and other
frozen food entrees. A bi-product of this process was a very large amount of potato shards and shavings which were sold to local farmers as livestock feed.
With the cooperation of Kraft-Heinz Corporation and JR Simplot Corporation we are launching The National Tater Tot Fan Club. The F Nephi & Golden Grigg Foundation is a501(c)3 entity sponsoring this event.
