The financial burden of applying to graduate schools can limit opportunities for talented individuals, especially those from under-resourced backgrounds. The process is time-consuming and expensive, and the entrance bar is set by affluent candidates whose applications have been enhanced by professional test preparation and admissions consulting services. The resource-intensive nature of the admissions process has resulted in an educational system of haves and have-nots, in which affluent candidates are able to gain admission to selective universities, and under-resourced candidates are funneled towards less competitive or for-profit institutions. And the lack of equity in our educational system carries over to politics and the boardroom, producing a lack of diversity in our national leadership ranks. The good news is that for under-resourced individuals with determination and ability, the graduate entrance exams can serve as a powerful equalizer. That's where Smart with a Heart comes in: our mission is to level the admissions playing field by making premium, interpersonal test prep and admissions advice accessible to everyone, not just the lucky few.
Smart with a Heart is America’s first nonprofit GRE test prep provider. We offer a full-service test preparation ecosystem that maximizes each candidate’s score through:
· a 30-hour program of self-paced instruction in the math and verbal concepts tested by the Graduate Record Examination (GRE),
· free office hours, and
· private, one-on-one mentoring from full-time, 99th percentile teachers.
