The Fargo Memorial Honor Guard is a blend of veteran organizations that conducts the Final Military Honors during the Interment Service held at the Fargo National Cemetery. The members come from the Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo veteran groups, which include the AMVETS, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Marine Corps League.
The Fargo Memorial Honor Guard (FMHG) has 25 members who volunteer to provide Military Funeral Honors at the Fargo National Cemetery (FNC). The FMHG can conduct up to 5 burials daily, Monday through Friday. The FMHG conducts these ceremonies year-round regardless of the weather; be it heat, rain, cold, or snow, they are there for the families.
Since the opening of the FNC, the FMHG has conducted close to 1150 interments, providing the final Military Funeral Honors with dignity and respect for the remains of our fallen comrade.
The current activities of the Fargo Memorial Honor Guard (FMHG) include conducting Military Funeral Honors, which consist of a three-round volley, and playing Taps for all eligible veterans interned at the Fargo National Cemetery.
The Fargo Memorial Honor Guard participates in many community activities within the surrounding area of Fargo/Moorhead. It participates in the National Vietnam War Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Veteran Day events, providing a color guard for local parades, including St Patrick's Day and Dilworth Loco Days, and Volunteering at the Fargo VA Medical Center as greeters, visiting veterans in long-term care, providing Honor Escort for the deceased veteran, flag dedications, laying Wreaths Across America, and ringing bells for the Salvation Army. The FMHG supports all community events.
