The Murphy Veterans Tribute Project began as a vision of a handful of residents of Murphy, Texas. They all had a common desire to erect a tribute to the dedicated members of the United States military; past, present and future. The City of Murphy generously supported this project and donated a plot of land for the future project in Murphy's Central Park.
Once built, the Tribute will provide a tranquil setting for the purpose of gathering and reflecting on our nation's military history and honoring our servicemen and women. A Unity Monument will be at the center of a landscaped stand of trees, encircled by a raised walkway—the Tribute Walk. Its six spires will signify the branches of the United States military: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines. Honor Pavers will allow individuals to pay personal tribute to loved ones who have served or are serving.
Educational opportunities are a key element of the Tribute. The Tribute Walk will include bands of granite inscribed with inspirational quotations from past military and historical leaders. There will be dynamic technology allowing students and community members to learn more about our military history, and Veterans will be invited to share their knowledge and experiences with the public and youth groups. The site will be available for hosting events on important National and Service-related dates (i.e., Memorial Day, 4th of July, Veterans Day, etc.).
We are currently in fundraising mode and anticipate construction on this unique and moving Tribute to our veterans to begin soon.
