FREEDOM SINGS USA

Freedom Sings USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans, active-duty service members, and their families heal from trauma and emotional distress related to military service and combat experiences. Our primary goal is to reduce the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and isolation among this population through a unique model of creative arts therapy, with an emphasis on songwriting. We take hit songwriters for workshops with veterans all over the country. We follow up with weekly classes both live and virtual zoom classes. We train local songwriters and zoom in a professional for expansion of the program for live classes in other states.

Military trauma is often complex and deeply personal, making traditional talk therapy difficult for many veterans. Freedom Sings USA seeks to provide an alternative pathway—one that uses the transformative power of music and storytelling to access buried emotions, reframe painful experiences, and create a renewed sense of identity and connection. Our mission is to get the traumatic thoughts “out of their heads and onto paper” and, ultimately, into a song—helping them tell their story, often for the first time.
