Breakthrough Houston serves 800 students across four programs, Middle School, College Bound, College Completion, Teaching Fellows. Our Middle School Program provides rising seventh, eighth, and ninth grade BTH students an intensive six week summer program designed to jumpstart their academic success in the upcoming school year. During the School Year, this program leverages a Project Based Learning (PBL) approach to ensure students take ownership of their learning process.
Our College Bound Program provides holistic support for BTH high school students to thrive in high school and confidently navigate the college admissions process. Established in 2008, the program offers grade level based advising, career exploration, PSAT/SAT/ACT preparation, and college and financial aid application support.
With an increasing focus on providing longer term support, BTH launched our College Completion Program, designed to combat the high number of under-served, under-resourced students who enroll in college but do not complete a degree. We provide guidance and mentorship to more than 150 college students until they complete their degree.
Through our Middle School Program, college undergraduates considering careers in teaching have the opportunity to solo teach for 50 hours, receive 30 hours of coaching from a veteran instructor, and participate in 5 hours of professional development. Our Teacher Training Model recruits demographically diverse undergraduates to confidently step into our classrooms and meaningfully serve as role models for our first generation, BIPOC students.
