Fortis Therapy Center (Fortis) is a non-profit Pediatric Therapy Clinic that utilizes custom therapy programs to help children become the best version of themselves. Fortis’ focus is serving children with Cerebral Palsy, Spinal Cord injury, Genetic Disorders, as well as other neurological and orthopedic diagnostic categories. Through fundraising and program revenue, we are able to provide these services at a reduced rate or at no charge to families in need. .
Project Walk is a physical therapy intensive program, utilizing body weight support treadmill training protocols to increase strength, balance, coordination needed to increased functional mobility and independence. Their increased mobility and independence will change the life of the child and family members. Cerebral Palsy is a disorder that lasts a lifetime; there is no cure. One in every 345 children are diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, making it the most common cause of motor disability in childhood. Medical costs for these children can be 10 times higher than for children without Cerebral Palsy. The children will participate in 45-90 hours of therapy during their intensive session using specialized equipment to offset the effects of gravity and help them perform proper gait mechanics. Each child’s progress will be tracked in distance walked, walking speed, percent body weight unloaded, and overall time walked.
So far in 2022, we have completed 7 intensive therapy session and will start an additional 4 session in September. We looking to increase the number of slot available to families over the next year to help reach more families. The project's total budget is $150,000 for the year. That includes cost for therapists, facility rent for the equipment, and maintenance for the equipment.
Every dollar donated to this project goes to helping change the life of a child in need. Through Project Walk, Fortis Therapy Center will help children and their families experience increased mobility and independence.
