We know first-hand how difficult that transition can be because we went through it. From finding employment and providing for families to walking into strange places feeling discontent and anxious, we understand. We want to offer support and services during this time through vocational skills training, resiliency programs, and other comprehensive support services.
Military families are going through a lot of uncertainties during transitions, and we want to support them because they served us in times of war. We want to have veteran focused events integrating with local business owners because we believe that learning and healing go hand in hand. We want to make them feel wanted and needed.
We want military families to go from serving our country honorably to serving our communities. We know that there is a wide breadth of issues military families have to overcome like traumatic events, physical impairments, social stigmas, and significant financial strain.
We want to provide a sense of purpose to veterans in the Mat-Su borough through learning vocational skills that they can then use to provide for their families and give back to our community.
Through the training events and skills center we want to provide a space for veterans to feel hope. Through vocational skill focused projects, they will grow closer to others in our community that have similar experiences and needs. Working side by side learning new skills and creating useful items will also allow for them to open up about what is happening in their lives, which can help prevent suicide and eliminate the sense of hopelessness.
Comprehensive support can include specific services like automotive services, donating vehicles, property maintenance, and events to educate veterans about a variety of skill-based occupations such as welding, mechanics, or construction.
