Gratitude Generation provides community-service opportunities in the Chicago area for children, families and organizations. We're supporting our neighbors in need while building a new generation of service-minded leaders.
At the core of what we do is the belief that making positive changes in the world starts with our kids. We're on a mission to create more grateful, happy, healthy children who will grow into contributing adults and improve the lives of people around them. We also believe that when kids practice gratitude, and experience what it means to help others, it instills the practice of giving and builds strong values. That's why g2 programs are built around hands-on community service opportunities for volunteers of all ages.
We work with many other community organizations to help support our neighbors and to provide opportunities for kids and families to volunteer. But close to our heart are several special programs that grew organically out of our mission—programs g2 designed and that we continue to offer on a regular basis. Our signature programs include:
Birthday Bags (formerly Gratitude Gifts)
4 Your Care Packages
Project Shop & Share
The g2 Personal Care Closet
Valentine's Meals for Veterans
Sponsor-a-Student Backpack Program
Bye-Bye Boredom Bags
FEED. (Food Is Essential Every Day)
We also have a Teen Board comprised of about 30 6th-12th graders who meet approximately twice per month to plan their own programs. By applying to participate and being selected to join, these teens gain leadership training, collaboration skills, and are able to learn from and support each other.
In addition to the Teen Board, launched in July 2021, the Gratitude Givers Advisory Board brings together men and women who want to help us make an even greater difference in our community. The Board's ideas, energy and commitment are making Gratitude Generation programs better than ever and spreading our reach in ways we otherwise couldn't.
We also have a curriculum that is currently being used in 3rd and 4th grade classrooms and will be expanded to 1st and 2nd grade classrooms next year. The GLOW! curriculum brings the practice of gratitude and kindness toward others into classrooms. Through projects, group activities and discussion, kids develop gratitude for their community, their friendships and themselves. Their eyes are opened a little wider to what they have, want and dream of, as well as what others have want and dream of, too. They learn that respecting themselves and others, and treating others with kindness, is how we grow into happy, healthy members of society.
