Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley proudly serves in Madison, Limestone, and Jackson Counties. Through partnerships between the community, those we serve, and Habitat, we are able to address the critical need of safe and affordable housing. Habitat offers opportunities to those needing a home, home repairs, and homeownership education.
When people spend all their money, time, and energy on their housing, it leaves little for education, peace, or purpose. As of December 2024, average rent in the Greater Huntsville market was nearly $1,500 for a two-bedroom apartment. We serve families who make between 25% and 60% of the AMI (Area Median Income). When a Habitat home is built, it is sold to the family in need at cost and financed by Habitat for Humanity with a 0% interest mortgage. Habitat does not profit from the sale or the mortgage paid back by the family. The mortgage payment will fall at or below 30% of the family’s gross income. The average monthly payment for a Habitat home is currently less than $550, including property taxes and insurance. Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley provides a vital alternative to help families find safe and affordable housing that will have a long-lasting impact. When families can save $400, $600, or $900 a month on housing, they can also address other barriers in their lives like food insecurity, access to health care, education and creating savings.
Thanks to donations and volunteerism, along with sweat equity hours invested by our partner families, we build strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.
