Today for the countless lives across this country, and the world, washing clothes is not as easy or accessible as it is for many of us. If you’re a family or individual living below the poverty line, or if you have migrated, a refugee, older and alone, or disabled, you have to choose how you will use the money you have - food, gas, medicine, or washing your clothes.
Each day, thousands of students miss school because they don’t have access to clean clothes. Access to clean clothing helps students feel confident at school, clean clothes keep’s bullying and teasing at bay, allowing students to focus on what matters most: their education.
Laundry Love started on the watery edge of Ventura California, during a conversation between Eric, a houseless veteran, and a group of friends, we asked Eric what would it look like for us to come alongside his life. What he said was the beginnings of Laundry Love – “If I had clean clothes, people would treat me as a human being”
Over the years we have learned these three simple things;
Love - love is the point.
Dignity - every human seen, valued, honored.
Detergent - fresh and clean feels good on everyone.
