T.H.U.G Life serves homeless and at-risk youth in rural communities throughout Northwest Wisconsin, where access to services is limited and transportation barriers often prevent youth from receiving critical support. Rural youth experiencing homelessness face unique challenges, including geographic isolation, limited emergency housing options, lack of public transportation, and fewer available mental health and social service providers.
Funding for this fiscal year will support direct services including housing and emergency housing assistance, food and meal programs, transportation support, clothing and hygiene supplies, education assistance, life skills programming, and expanded mental health resources. Increased funding for mental health services reflects the growing need for trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and ongoing support for youth experiencing homelessness in rural communities.
Additionally, harsh winter conditions in rural Wisconsin create urgent needs for cold-weather supplies such as coats, boots, blankets, and emergency shelter assistance. This budget prioritizes immediate, flexible resources to respond quickly to youth in crisis.
Through these direct services, T.H.U.G Life aims to reduce youth homelessness, improve stability, and create pathways toward education, employment, and long-term independence for youth living in underserved rural communities.
