Santa Cruz Council Friends of the Rail & Trail advocates for reactivating the 32-mile rail corridor that crosses our county from Davenport to Watsonville. Our vision is called "Coast Connect”. We envision a transportation system in Santa Cruz County that includes innovative rail technology, a wide and safe trail system, and integrated options to reach our final destinations via buses, shuttles, bicycling, walking and ride sharing. Coast Connect is about a climate friendly transportation network that supports equity and prosperity for all who live, work, and play here.
Since our founding in 2002, Friends of the Rail & Trail have worked diligently to raise awareness and catalyze community engagement by:
- Encouraging residents to express their opinions to decision-makers in writing and in person
- Educating the public, agency staff and elected officials
- Partnering with other local and regional nonprofits
