The Open Source Pharma Foundation is a global nonprofit, with centers in Bangalore, Paris, and New York. We need a new paradigm for pharma R&D, and we need it now. Inspired by the polio vaccine, which was open IP and crowdfunded, we are developing open-source vaccines and medicines for COVID-19, future pandemics, and tuberculosis, which is also a pandemic. One of our main techniques is simple: by repurposing existing already-approved off patent vaccines and medicines that have been used for decades, with proven safety profiles, high degrees of acceptance, and massive existing distribution, we can have an enormous health impact for orders of magnitude less cost and in radically less time. We work with leading universities, national governments, and philanthropies globally. Our work also includes computational/AI-based discovery, and critically, nurturing a global community, which now spans six continents. Our team includes luminaries from pharma, scientists, activists, educators, and artists. Using open source principles, and by nurturing a movement, we seek to create low cost new medicines and vaccines in areas of great health need, and an alternate open source pharma system.
