FAITHFUL FORGOTTEN BEST FRIENDS

Faithful Forgotten Best Friends -- FFBF -- is a non-profit organization of volunteers (we do not have any paid personnel) which has been working side by side with Mt. Carmel's Medical Outreach Program and the Holy Family Church Soup Kitchen and Outreach. We are committed to reducing hunger and providing basic veterinary care, vaccinations, and assistance with spay and neuter for the pets of the homeless and less fortunate in the downtown Columbus, OH and Franklinton areas. We believe in the healing power of companion pets and that the human/animal bond is very important to life. Each homeless person has a unique story. They may be people like you and me, a family losing a home due to the economy, disabled, elderly, victims of abuse, people with mental disorders, addictions, parolees, and even our veterans. The homeless usually need help finding housing or a rent subsidy. Unfortunately, those with pets find this very difficult. Many are forced to choose between their pet and staying in a shelter. Surprisingly, most choose to stay on the streets with their pets. Sometimes, this is their only companion or family! Between 5% and 10% of homeless people have dogs or cats. In some areas, the rate is as high as 24%!

When we began seven years ago, we were the ONLY non-profit in the Midwest that was focusing on this need. Now it is our hope that our program will continue to be the gold standard that other organizations compare themselves against.
