Since 1971, Crossroads has served as a trusted community anchor, offering food, safety-net services, and compassionate support to help people move toward stability, health, and hope.
We serve more than 15,000 people each year. Our programs are designed to reduce suffering today while building long-term wellbeing for tomorrow. Crossroads provides ready-to-eat meals, pantry groceries, hygiene supplies, documentation assistance, connections to healthcare, and employment support. We meet people where they are, ensure dignity in every interaction, and help clients overcome barriers that keep them from housing, jobs, and stability.
Crossroads operates Detroit’s only weekly Sunday Soup Kitchen, now in its 47th year, serving hot meals to more than 500 people each week. Daily, we provide ready to eat meals in our lobby for anyone who is hungry, along with a client choice Emergency Food Pantry and a Midweek Market that offers fresh produce, nourishment, and support in a welcoming environment.
Our Crisis Resource Navigation Program helps individuals obtain birth certificates and state IDs, enroll in Medicaid, sign up for SNAP, apply for housing, and rebuild stability. Many clients experiencing homelessness rely on us for mail services, document replacement, and ongoing case support. Crossroads is also a partner with Street Medicine Detroit and the Recovery Mobile Clinic to expand access to medical and behavioral health care to people living outdoors or without transportation.
Our Employment Office assists clients with job readiness, digital literacy, resume building, applications, interview preparation, and online safety skills. We also provide computer access and workforce navigation to help clients secure meaningful income. These services remove common barriers that keep people from entering or reentering the workforce.
Crossroads also distributes hygiene products, toiletries, diapers, period supplies, and other essential items that support dignity, health, and stability. In partnership with Detroit area agencies, schools, and community groups, we meet the needs of seniors, families with children, returning citizens, refugees, and individuals experiencing crisis or transition.
Volunteers are vital to our mission. Each year, more than 1,000 volunteers help prepare meals, stock shelves, organize the pantry, sort clothing and hygiene supplies, support administrative tasks, assist at events, or welcome guests during community service days. Corporate volunteer groups are welcome, and Crossroads can accommodate teams of all sizes for food distribution, cleaning and organizing projects, and special events.
