Birmingham Green is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization with a 97-year legacy of providing compassionate care to seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. Established by five Northern Virginia jurisdictions, Birmingham Green was created to serve the most vulnerable populations in these areas, ensuring they receive high-quality long-term care regardless of their financial situation. Birmingham Green offers a range of services, including assisted living, memory care for individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, and skilled nursing care. Our mission is centered on creating a person-centered, community-focused environment where residents can engage in meaningful activities while receiving the medical and personal care they need.
A unique aspect of Birmingham Green is our dedicated Memory Care neighborhood, which provides specialized care for residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. The Memory Care neighborhood includes a secure, monitored courtyard to allow residents to enjoy outdoor activities safely. This area exemplifies our holistic approach to memory care, which focuses on nurturing the mind, body, and spirit of our residents while maintaining respect for their past experiences and promoting their current abilities.
In addition to long-term care services, Birmingham Green runs a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program that provides free education to unemployed and underemployed individuals, many of whom are from minority or immigrant backgrounds. The CNA program is designed to address the critical shortage of CNAs in the healthcare industry while offering participants a pathway to stable jobs. The program’s success is reflected in its high graduation and job placement rates, with many graduates being hired directly by Birmingham Green. Through this and other initiatives, Birmingham Green continues to uphold their commitment to enhancing the quality of life for both their residents and the broader community.
Community feedback plays a crucial role in shaping the care and activities offered at Birmingham Green. By fostering an environment where residents, families, and staff work closely together, we ensure that feedback is regularly collected and used to improve programs and services. Residents and their families are also involved in the social fabric of the community through a wide variety of activities, events, and family-inclusive programs. From bingo games to trips into town for shows and hobbies, we prioritize fostering connections among residents and between residents and their families.
