Give Back Yoga Foundation is the gateway to yoga service programs, trainings and resources supporting certified yoga instructors to awaken, transform, and give back trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness techniques and tools. Our 4 core programs go deep into providing specialized trainings and resources to support the following populations: Veterans, Prisoners, and those recovering from addictions to substances and disordered eating. EBT: Eat Breathe Thrive (EBT) fosters positive body image and overcoming disordered eating, through yoga and community. An estimated 24 million Americans suffer from bulimia, binge eating or anorexia — a disorder which has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. With the average cost of treatment adding up to $1,250 per day, only one in 10 individuals will receive treatment and 50% will relapse after discharge. Eat Breathe Thrive offers a complementary therapy that can facilitate long-term healing. Support Give Back Yoga Foundation in bringing EBT programming to 100 treatment centers.
PYP: The Prison Yoga Project (PYP), a program of trauma-informed yoga that’s taught as a mindfulness practice, helps inmates to build a better life. Through the practice, students can restore the connection between their mind, body and heart, experience self-compassion and empathy for others, and take responsibility for their actions. The statistics are alarming: today, 2.25 million men and women – 1 in 100 adults – are in U.S. prisons. 1 in 31 adults, or 7.3 million Americans, are under some sort of correctional supervision. And 60% of released prisoners will return to prison within 3 years. To truly help men and women in prison to turn their lives around, we need to do something different. Support Give Back Yoga Foundation in bringing PYP to 20,000 prisoners.
MYT: Mindful Yoga Therapy (MYT), a program designed to help veterans and others who have suffered post traumatic stress to find a calm and steady body and mind through the practice of yoga, meditation, breath work, yoga nidra and meditation. Each practice is a tool that can be used to cope with post-traumatic stress, and together they form a comprehensive system — a “toolbox” — that can help warriors transition into a life of strength and resilience. Over two million American service members were deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Today, one in three is coping with PTSD, traumatic brain injury or another stress-related disorder. Some could lose their silent battle: nationwide, veterans account for one out of five suicides. And countless other veterans are coping with stress and chronic pain from non-combat injuries.Give Back Yoga is committed to supporting veterans, active duty members and their families through the MYT program. Support Give Back Yoga Foundation in bringing the MYT toolkits to 30,000 veterans.
Y12SR: Yoga for 12-Step Recovery (Y12SR) supports addiction recovery and relapse prevention through yoga. By integrating the wisdom of yoga with the practical tools of 12-step programs, the Yoga of 12-Step Recovery program offers a rich and powerful framework to support addiction recovery. Serving people who are in recovery from all manifestation of addictions, Y12SR is not only a relapse prevention program, but a reintegration program that reconnects those in recovery with all parts of themselves and with the world…moving beyond duality, into oneness. In the United States, an estimated 1 in 3 people are either dealing with an addiction, or are severely affected by the addiction of someone close to them. Support Give Back Yoga Foundation in bringing Y12SR programming to 100 treatment centers.
