The Immigrant Defense Project (IDP) is a national non-profit organization founded 20 years ago in response to draconian immigration laws and an emerging human rights crisis of mass deportation that has now reached a fever pitch under the current administration. IDP works to protect and expand rights for all immigrants in communities across the United States.
IDP is a small organization with big impact, including leading campaigns to fight back against the demonization of immigrants and orchestrating strategies behind litigation in the Supreme Court and Circuit Courts. We use our unique expertise towards abolishing the injustices at the intersection of the racially biased criminal legal and immigration systems. We fight to end the current era of unprecedented mass deportation via inter-connected strategies that attack the criminal and immigration systems at multiple points — strengthening immigrant defense through training andexpert advice; challenging unfair laws throughimpact litigation; shaping just policies throughadvocacy; empowering communities and advocates throughalliance buildingandeducation;and using strategic communications to counter the demonization of immigrants and people with criminal convictions while changing the conversation by exposing the human toll of unjust policies.We help lay the groundwork for a day when the criminal and immigration laws of the United States respect and uphold the human rights of everyone.
IDP continually evolves our mission and activities both programmatically and geographically to fight back against mass criminalization, detention and deportation.
