Founded in 1967 to address the lack of professional and compassionate mental health treatment services for youth in Orange County, California, today CGC serves the mental and behavioral health needs of 4,500 children and family members annually. All services are provided at no-cost or low-cost, to ensure low-income families and marginalized communities have access to evidence-based and proven effective treatment services.
CGC operates five clinic locations in Orange County, including Santa Ana, Fullerton, San Clemente, Buena Park, and Anaheim. Our team consists of 100+ licensed clinicians - including psychiatrists, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and social workers - committed to the critical role that community mental health care plays in the health and wellbeing of all. Clients are referred to CGC by schools, pediatricians, foster care and adoption services, courts/ justice system, emergency rooms, and self-referrals.
A majority of our young clients arrive at CGC with significant mental or behavioral health impairment due to abuse, neglect, community crime, or due to cognitive differences. Many are struggling with severe depression, anxiety, or self-harming behaviors. CGC therapists schedule weekly appointments with the child and family, for a minimum of 4-6 months, and longer if indicated.
CGC's evidence-based therapies include Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Health Therapy (TFCBT), Play Therapy, PC-CARE, TC-CARE and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), among others. For more info: https://www.childguidancecenteroc.org/
CGC's Strong Families, Strong Children (SFSC) program specializes in supporting the mental health, housing, and other basic needs, of Orange County's veteran and military-connected families. Staffed by veterans, or those with lived-military experience, our SFSC clinicians and Peer Navigators understand the unique culture of the military and the strengths and stressors unique to our veterans and their family members.
