WASSAR Alexander Hamilton Chapter
Puyallup, WashingtonThe Washington State Society Sons of the American Revolution Alexander Hamilton Chapter commemorates and provides memorials for the people and events of the American Revolution. We help to preserve records relating to the events leading up to and during the American Revolution. We sponsor essay and oration contests for high school students that are based on historical and patriotic themes. The contests are designed to give high school students an opportunity to explore events that shaped American History. Our chapter awards ROTC medals to foster the principle of the "citizen-soldier", exemplified by the Minutemen of Revolutionary War days. These awards are given to ROTC or JROTC cadets within Pierce County and South King County high schools who are selected for having a high degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military bearing and general excellence. We offer an enhanced essay JROTC program to outstanding third-year cadets in their Junior year of JROTC who are enrolled in a four year program. Each year we present awards to law enforcement officers, public safety officers, and other citizens who exemplify the best civic traditions of our nation. This includes young men and women who are leaders in our communities: high-ranking high school students of history and Eagle Scouts. Our organization honors, respects, and supports veterans, especially those confined to residential and hospital facilities provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs. We act as a sponsor group for Wreaths Across America to remember and honor those veterans who gave their all and act as the Color Guard for the Remembrance ceremonies at the Washington Soldiers Cemetery in Orting. The Alexander Hamilton Chapter Color Guard marches in the Armed Forces Day, Fourth of July, Veterans Day and other seasonal parades throughout the Puget Sound area. We participate in “Honor-Flight” homecoming welcomes for World War II, Korean War and Vietnam veterans and act as Honor Guards for veteran re-internment ceremonies . We post colors and congratulate new Americans at Citizenship ceremonies, honor individuals and businesses with flag certificates, conduct flag retirement ceremonies and teach our great American heritage to classrooms full of eager 4th and 5th grade students.
We are a historical society that was established to honor and remember our patriot ancestors who were responsible for founding our Constitution and Bill of Rights. We foster community outreach programs that help engage younger Americans to be more civically involved with their community in non-political ways by giving them historical information to help them better understand the foundations of our Constitutional Republic.
