Given the extraordinary strain placed on the government by the war, the government of Ukraine is only able to partially cover prosthesis for people injured during the war, and cannot address reconstructive surgery’ needs due to limited resources and the need to prioritize life-saving medical care.
Majority of the patients, who received prosthetic services abroad in 2014, had to redo their prothesis in Ukraine due to the absence of maintenance and support in Ukraine. This demonstrate the need to establish expertise inside of the country and provide high-quality prosthetics services to Ukrainians, injured during the war.
Ukraine also doesn’t have education base for prosthetic engineers and plastic surgeons. Creating center of excellence and educational hub will increase number of qualified specialists and quality of services.
The Superhumans team will launch this Center by raising additional funds to refurbish the existing Veterans Hospital in Lviv, Ukraine into a state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility, leveraging the team’s vast experience in humanitarian and business projects, ranging from humanitarian aid to war-affected people, responding to COVID and contributing towards reforming qwesquare feet of hospital facilities and establish and equip psychological department, prosthetics department & prosthetics lab and a rehabilitation department in the first year of operation. The educational center will start its operations in early 2023 by creating video tutorials, online lectures, and case studies for paramedics and doctors. In Q2, Superhumans will organize several medical missions to address the most difficult cases of facial reconstruction and prosthesis for people injured during the war, using the Veterans Hospital’s facilities. Superhumans is recruiting international specialists for its medical board and well-known individuals for its ambassador board to bring the best experience and to maintain awareness of the situation in Ukraine. As a result of this commitment, hundreds of people will receive high quality medical services at Superhumans Center and thousands of doctors will be covered by educational programs. The Center also represents the first attempt to launch successful public-private partnership to reduce the burden on the Ukrainian healthcare system and can serve as a model for replication in other regions of Ukraine.
