CHANGE & IMPACT INC

Founded in 2021 by Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Change & Impact, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving access to healthcare and expanding resources for individuals who stutter. As someone who has stuttered his entire life, Kidd-Gilchrist launched the nonprofit to advocate for better speech therapy coverage, educate the public, and raise awareness about stuttering.

Known for his achievements as an NCAA Men’s Basketball Champion with the University of Kentucky (2012), the second overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, and a nine-year NBA veteran, Kidd-Gilchrist used his time during the 2020 NBA “bubble” to reflect on his personal journey and how he could create meaningful change for others who stutter.

Since its founding, Change & Impact has been active nationwide, with Kidd-Gilchrist speaking at more than 70 universities, hospitals, stuttering camps, and support groups to emphasize the transformative role of speech therapy and the vital connection between individuals who stutter and their Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs). The organization covers costs of speech therapy services for underserved children and teens who stutter, hosts career fairs for adults who stutter, continuing education programs for SLPs, and community events for children who stutter and their families, educators, and SLPs.
