Charity House is a home and community center that is situated in a repurposed federal credit union building. We are strategically located between the greater metropolis of Indianapolis and an impoverished drug and alcohol infested community called Mars Hill. We specialize in providing a safe place for men coming out of detox, and PTSD situations. We provide accommodations and transportation for disabled veterans. Charity House participates in community activities such as first responders' day, and back to school events, where we provide school supplies to under privileged kids in the area. We also do community kids events such as Trunk or Treat, and The Christmas Brunch Kids Gift Giveaway. Our community center provides a meeting place for AA and SWAN. SWAN South-West Association of Neighbors. This group meets with the Indianapolis Police Departments Community relations officer, as well as the beat officers, monthly to discuss progress and problems within the community. We have a physician volunteer and a Nurse practitioner that sits on our board of directors. We believe in order to gain a new life and new direction the entire man must be whole, physically, mentally, spiritually, and socially. We partner with second chance corporations that provide men, coming out of prison and addictions, the opportunity to learn a skilled trade. We have testimonials of men that have come through the program living productive lives within the community. Many men are now giving back to the community and have been received back by family that they were once estranged from. Some have even been reunited with their children and re-obtained custody of their kids. We believe we must be good stewards of what resources that organizations and individuals provide.
