Save the Swarm: Urban Bee Rescue

di BEE FOUND SAINT LOUIS

Every spring, honeybee swarms search for new homes. Too often, they settle in attics, walls, or sheds—leading to costly removals for homeowners and dead colonies. We’re offering a better solution.

Bee Found is launching a pilot project to place hundreds of collapsible swarm traps across the St. Louis metro area. These $40 traps, each tagged with a weatherproof QR code with contact information, give swarms a safe and temporary home—before they become a problem.

Anyone spotting a swarm in a trap can scan the QR code to alert a local beekeeper. The bees are rescued, and a fresh trap is placed. It’s fast, humane, and prevents infestations in homes and businesses.

This is more than a rescue effort—it’s a prevention program that protects pollinators and helps property owners avoid unnecessary damage. The project is also powered by veteran beekeepers through Bee Found, our nonprofit that supports veterans with PTSD through therapeutic beekeeping.
