FOB Hope has been given the opportunity to partner with the City of Tacoma to open its first Veterans Village (encampment). This Village is being created to provide safety and security while working to get Veterans into permanent housing.
The Veterans we are serving are homeless living on the street and subject to City Sweeps at any time. The Village will allow Veterans to find work and go to appointments without the fear of coming back to learn their possessions have been stolen.
The Village will provide a gated community with power and hygiene services. We will provide some shelf stable food but are working on a plan to get donations of hot meals from the community. The Village will have full -time security and cameras to assist with security issues.
FOB Hope will provide intake and triage services along with case management. We will also connect the Veteran to housing resources for permanent housing. We will provide transportation so Veterans can go to doctor's appointments, job interviews, and any other locations where they need assistance.
FOB Hope is aware people die when trying to survive on the street. In 2016, we lost a Veteran to hypothermia. This type of loss can never happen again. This Village is allowing us to monitor the health of Veterans, provide warmth, clothing, food, and a safe place to sleep.
We need your financial support to ensure these Veterans have everything they need to be successful in this program. FOB Hope wants to make this a model that can be duplicated in any City for any population living homeless.
