The Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) is the largest hunger-relief nonprofit in Central Texas, providing equitable access to nutritious food across a 21-county service area. Through direct service programs and a network of nearly 250 Partner Agencies, CTFB supports 92,000 food-insecure individuals each month.
CTFB sources food through retail rescue, strategic purchasing, and participation in state and federal programs. We procure, receive, sort, warehouse, and distribute approximately 75% of the food used by our Partner Agencies, providing significant infrastructure and resources that many of these partners are unable to support independently. In addition to this broad distribution network, we operate targeted programs to address service gaps such as mobile food pantries and special distributions for groups particularly at risk to food insecurity, including children, seniors, veterans, college students, and military families. We provide medically prescribed food and medically tailored meals in partnership with healthcare clinics and partners across Central Texas.
We also operate direct service programs that address the root causes of food insecurity. Our Benefits and Emergency Services team helps neighbors navigate the application and renewal process for SNAP and other essential government benefits like Medicaid, CHIP, TANF, Healthy Texas Women, and the Medicare Savings Program. While neighbors wait to receive benefits, they can access the Fresh Harvest Market at our Austin office, a free market offering a dignified, choice-based shopping experience.
Further, our Workforce Training Programs address unemployment and underemployment, two leading causes of food insecurity. These free programs equip participants with technical knowledge and soft skills to support long-term employment and economic stability.
Finally, our Community Nutrition Program offers free, bilingual, evidence-based classes on healthy eating, cooking, SNAP budgeting, and active living. Delivered in partnership with schools, clinics, and social service organizations, these classes are tailored to diverse communities and aim to reduce chronic disease and improve food resource management.
