We are a 501(c)3 non-profit community rowing program, with a mission to improve people's lives through the sport of rowing. Our welcoming and supportive organization is open to all, regardless of an individual’s experience, abilities or background. Our motto – “Pull with Purpose” – reflects our commitment to diversity, to making a difference in everything we do, and to pursuing excellence at all levels. Each year we introduce many people to the sport of rowing - from middle school and high school youth to adult recreational rowers to physically and cognitively disabled people. We run free, monthly learn-to-rows for the community during the summer. Our work does much to improve our rowers’ lives through improved fitness, opportunities for competition at the national and elite level, and by building friendships while having fun on the water.

Rockland Rowing Association began as River Rowing Association in Nyack NY (on the Hudson) in 2003. With our move to nearby Rockland Lake State Park in 2015, the club expanded and was renamed Rockland Rowing Association. We now have two docks, ten buoyed lanes marking a 1K course, and a protected rack area for our more than fifty rowing shells, which we share with teams from Suffern High School, North Rockland High School and Dominican University (Blauvelt, NY) . Our competitive youth team (about forty rowers) includes young people from six different Rockland County high schools and Jr. high schools, as well as schools in Westchester and Bergen NJ, and our adaptive program serves rowers with physical and cognitive challenges from throughout our region. Our masters programs for adults continues to grow with both recreational and competitive rowers.

RRA strives for excellence. Our youth compete and often medal at USRowing Youth Nationals. One RRA rower from Nyack HS, Charlotte Buck has multiple Olympic appearances for Team USA. RRA's adaptive athletes regularly compete and medal in regattas from Boston to Philadelphia.

RRA follows clearly defined budgeting parameters; operational and administrative costs are covered through fundraisers supported by participants and parents. Grants are always allocated to the purchase of specific items for which they are intended. In past years, we have received grants from Orange & Rockland Utilities, Crestron, Suez Water, Rockland County Tourism Bureau, Rockland County Youth Bureau, the Christopher Reeve Foundation, and the Craig Neilsen Foundation to help fund our efforts.

We actively seek out a diverse group of athletes. Our youth programs are heavily subsidized to make them affordable to a wide range of families. Scholarships are available for those needing additional support, and the veterans and adaptive programs are offered free of charge. RRA’s communications committee works year round in reaching out to the community and local schools about our activities. Outreach happens on-line, through on-site demonstrations, through local media, and participation in community events.
