Founded in 1965, Mountain CAP is an active leader and advocate, on local, regional, and state levels for positive growth in rural communities of West Virginia. We promote and empower family and individual success through a comprehensive approach to education, employment, community health, social involvement and safe, affordable housing. We empower families and individuals by offering resources and supports that enable them to achieve self-sufficiency and improve their overall well-being. We create partnerships within our communities to maximize existing resources, improve infrastructures, and encourage long-term economic expansion.
As a Community Action Agency / Community Development Corporation, the Mountain CAP primary service area is Braxton, Upshur and Webster Counties; however, various programs extend our reach to include some services in Barbour, Gilmer, Greenbrier, Harrison, Lewis, and Raleigh Counties. We engage with local stakeholders, collaborate with other organizations, and utilize evidence-based practices to ensure that our services are effective and responsive to the challenges faced by our communities. Through our commitment to education, training, and community development, we aim to create lasting change and foster thriving communities for all.
We encourage low-income participation in program design, service delivery and agency governance. Community Action strives to reach three goals: 1. Individuals and families with low incomes are stable and achieve economic security; 2. Communities where people with low income live are healthy and offer economic opportunity; and 3. People with low incomes are engaged and active in building opportunities in communities.
