Unplugged is the heart of Guitars For Vets’ mission to share the healing power of music with U.S. Veterans living with PTSD and other service-related challenges. Through this evidence-based program, Veterans are paired with trained volunteers for ten weeks of one-on-one acoustic guitar lessons, provided at no cost. Upon graduation, each participant receives a brand-new acoustic guitar and accessory kit to continue their journey of healing through music.
The program is more than music instruction. It is a safe, supportive community where Veterans find connection, confidence, and resilience. Studies show participants experience a 21% improvement in PTSD symptoms and a 27% decrease in symptoms of depression. To date, more than 17,000 Veterans have graduated, with new students enrolling year-round at over 300 practice locations across the country.
Unplugged gives Veterans a healthy outlet for expression, reduces isolation, and fosters hope. With every guitar placed in a Veteran’s hands, Benevity supporters can directly transform lives by helping those who have given so much to our country rediscover peace and purpose through music.
