We have been established since 2013. We have serviced over 65,000 hungry people. We are asking for funds so we can be prepared for the second wave of the COVID-19 virus, that The Center of Disease Control is predicting.
Need- According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (2018) there were around ½ million homeless people in the United States on a given night and 134,000 just in California alone. Many experience chronic hunger and malnutrition and require food assistance, basic toiletries and clothing. According to the Los. Angeles County Corner records, more than 1,200 homeless people have died since 2017, also a 2017 report by the Department of Health said that a significant amount of homeless deaths were caused by preventable illnesses, like cardiovascular disease, pneumonia, diabetes, cancer, cirrhosis, severe bacterial infection, and other treatable diseases. Small things like gloves, first aid kits and socks etc. can possibly save a life.
Capability-We have been operating on ground zero during the COVID-19 epidemic since March 2020, providing our services to the homeless and elderly community. During this time we have serviced more than 950 vulnerable clients. The fight has been long and it’s not over. We have been operation since 2014 debt free; we have fed over 30,000 homeless people living directly on the streets and have helped over 100 homeless people find permanent housing/ employment. Our program has proven itself to be very effective and needed.
Services we provide- supplies to prevent the spread of COVID-19, warm balanced meals, we give away personal hygiene kits, clean clothes, we help veterans find permanent housing and we give teenagers ages 12-21 a platform to help and feed the vulnerable community but most importantly we give hope! Our programs have helped many people. We are more than just charity, giving away free food to the community, we are also a street task force whose main objective is to help people get off the street and to pursue a normal life and find permanent housing!
Teens@work- A program started by the founder. We have partnered up with teens in our community neighbors, high schools and colleges. These teen have created change and new practices to our organization. They specialized in processing orders, making streets kits, clothes donation, keeping our social media updated, they are in charge of our food handouts, and they have conducted up close and personal interviews with the homeless gathering vital information for our programs. With the new COVID-19 Epidemic are teens are now working from home. These teens are smart, energetic, creative and caring. Our teens are volunteers who enjoy philanthropy work. Most of all we are giving them a gift that will follow them for the rest of their lives, which is the gift of love. So we always try to honor them with gifts card, awards and trophies to keep them encourage!
Although we have been operating with the homeless community for over 6 years. This year we have been operating on ground zero during the COVID-19 epidemic since March 2020. Providing our services to the homeless community and individuals in need due to COVID-19 crisis. During this time we have serviced more than 900 homeless clients. The fight has been long and it’s not over, we are in it for the long haul. We know organization like us help fight the spread of the COVID-19 virus, if we have the appropriate supplies. Since March 2020 we have experienced a financial burden because we have used most of our resources and stock to help our community and individuals in need. We keep a stockpile of gloves, first aid kits, sanitizer, water, clothes and personal hygiene items. We was fortunate enough to supply our local sister charity and churches with stockpile. However our resources have ran short. We want to reach out and help fight and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the homeless community.
We would like to help as many homeless people as we can pursue a normal life, we often run out of supplies, food, clothes hygiene items to give to the homeless community. Although OSTS currently feeds about 200 monthly, the demand for our services is far greater than the supply under current operating conditions. Our impact is seen immediately, food gives energy and strength, clean clothes build self-esteem and pride, hygiene items promotes clean bodies and positive attitude. All three works together to bring hope happiness and love.
