Entry-Level Career Training for Women: Empowering Women from Under-served Communities
di ALLIANCE FOR YOUNG WOMEN AND GIRLSThe Alliance for Young Women and Girls (A4YWG) is dedicated to bridging the gap between potential and opportunity. A critical component of our Entry-Level Career Training for Women (ELCTW) encompasses in-person learning, designed to provide a high-touch, supportive environment where transformation happens.
During our in-person sessions, we provide intensive professional development training specifically tailored to help women from under-served communities access entry-level positions that offer living-wage salaries and essential benefits. We recognize that technical skills are only one piece of the puzzle; true career success requires the confidence and "soft skills" that are best cultivated through face-to-face interaction.
What We Do & What Participants Learn
Our curriculum goes beyond the basics to ensure long-term career sustainability. In-person modules focus on:
Occupational Retention: Teaching the nuances of workplace culture, conflict resolution, and professional conduct to ensure participants don't just land a job, but keep it and thrive.
Leadership Skills: Developing emotional intelligence, ethical decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
Career Readiness: Hands-on resume reviews and mock interviews that provide real-time feedback in a safe, encouraging space.
Employer Networking: Direct access to network with local employers, allowing participants to build a professional circle and practice their "elevator pitch" with industry experts.
The Impact:
By moving from a virtual screen to a physical classroom, our participants build a powerful sense of community and sisterhood. This human connection is vital for women who may be overcoming systemic barriers, helping them realize that they are not alone in their journey toward economic mobility.
How Your Funding Helps:
We are requesting $3,500 to help sustain the essential in-person components of our training that foster community and professional readiness. These funds will directly cover:
Meeting Location: Hourly rental fees for our in-person training site in Long Beach, providing a professional and accessible environment for our cohorts.
Learning Supplies: Essential materials including participant workbooks, handouts, sticky notes, pens, markers, and printing fees for our copyrighted curriculum.
Nutrition: Providing water and non-perishable snacks to keep our participants fueled and focused during intensive multi-hour sessions.
Career Wear: Gift cards (T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Ross) to help participants purchase professional attire. This ensures they feel confident, empowered, and prepared for interviews and their new corporate workplaces.
Your Impact:
By supporting this project, you are helping women break down barriers and pave the way for a future filled with economic mobility and professional success. Our results speak to the power of this intentional training:
98% of our graduates transition into careers with upward mobility within six months of completion.
100% of our participants report increased confidence in salary negotiation and interviewing after completing the in-person mock interview sessions.
We proudly serve women ages 18–35 who are navigating significant life transitions, including those impacted by systemic racism, transitional age foster youth, veterans, single mothers, and individuals who are unhoused or survivors of domestic violence. Whether they are coming from low-income backgrounds or re-entering the workforce, your contribution provides the essential tools and community they need to secure a living wage and lasting career stability.
