Sails Angels is a volunteer-run, donation-funded non-profit dedicated to enriching lives through outdoor experiences, environmental stewardship, and community service. For 15 years, we have been a steadfast presence on our section of the James River, fostering connections, responsibility, and opportunities for all who join us. Our mission is fourfold: River Access & Adventure – We provide opportunities for people to experience and enjoy the James River, making outdoor recreation accessible to all. Environmental Stewardship – As regular river-goers, we take action by removing trash from the river. Since our founding, we have removed over 43 tons of waste, keeping our waterway clean for future generations. Community Engagement & Service – Our volunteer base is diverse, including school groups, church groups, family groups, and individuals fulfilling community service. We work closely with veterans through a beekeeping program, support Big Brothers Big Sisters, engage active military personnel, and create inclusive activities for children and adults with disabilities. Our programs span biology, history, and engineering, ensuring a rich learning experience for all. Support & Empowerment – We go beyond volunteerism, offering direct support to those in need. Whether it’s helping someone find employment, providing resources, or simply offering encouragement, we stand by our volunteers in times of need.
