Food shortages and starvation for over a million people in Madagascar. The worst since the late 90's.

Southern Madagascar has the first climate change famine. Five years of drought is affecting tens of thousands. Many families are losing their children to starvation. Children are walking for miles looking for water in the soaring heat. The farmland has been buried under sand, and the villages where the farmlands are buried under sand children malnourished. Volunteers are measuring the children arms with color coded measuring tape most children are reading at 12 cm yellow indicating the child is suffering from malnutrition. The urgency and the cries from children are being heard around the world. Other children's tiny little arms are measured with the color coded measuring tape readings are at 11 cm red, indicating dehydration and severe malnutrition and need antibiotics, and left with only skin and bones. Families have been living on raw red cactus fruits, wild leaves, mud mixed with juice, and locusts to survive.

We are witnessing climate change. The violent sandstorm has change the environment and the landscape. Nature is changing, and leaving the people with less food to eat.

This is an area of the world that has contributed nothing to climate change, but now, they're the ones paying the highest price. Madagascar produce only 0.1% of the world’s carbon emissions.
