Operation Shield (Emergency Veteran & Family Assistance)

Operation Shield provides direct, short-term assistance to veterans, service members, and military-connected families facing unexpected financial hardship or an immediate barrier to stability.
A single emergency expense can quickly become a much larger crisis. A utility shutoff, transportation issue, unexpected medical expense, food insecurity, temporary housing need, or other urgent cost can affect a veteran or military family’s ability to remain safe, housed, employed, and connected to care.
Through Operation Shield, Veterans Resource & Support Task Force (VRSTF) works directly with individuals and families to identify the immediate need, locate available community resources, coordinate assistance with trusted partners, and provide direct financial support when existing resources cannot fully address the situation.
Our goal is not simply to provide temporary relief. We work to understand what created the barrier, connect individuals with appropriate resources, and help establish a path toward greater stability.
Support for Operation Shield may help provide:
• Emergency housing or lodging assistance
• Utility assistance
• Transportation and fuel support
• Food and essential household needs
• Emergency expenses that create barriers to employment, health care, or stability
• Resource navigation and individualized support
• Coordination with community organizations and veteran service providers
• Assistance when traditional programs are unavailable, delayed, or do not meet the full need
VRSTF believes veterans and military families should not have to navigate complicated systems alone, especially during a crisis. We collaborate with nonprofit organizations, service providers, businesses, community partners, and other veteran-serving organizations to maximize available resources and avoid unnecessary duplication of services.
When another trusted organization can meet a need, we help make that connection. When a gap remains, Operation Shield gives VRSTF the flexibility to step in.
