In 2009, the “Friends of Carmichael Aquatic Center” evolved to become Carmichael Parks Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit public charity dedicated to supporting park improvements, the development of new recreational opportunities, and the provision of scholarships to local youth so they may participate in the many recreation programs offered by the Park District.
The Foundation provides support for the 13 parks in the Carmichael Recreation and Parks District by working closely with staff and the community to identify needs. To date, the Sharon Ruffner Memorial Youth Scholarship fund has provided over $120,000 to ensure all youth have the opportunity to participate in activities and programs. The Foundation engages with the community in park events such as summer concerts, special holiday programming, and on site programs at local middle schools. Over $250,000 has gone to improve the parks in Carmichael including new bocce courts in Carmichael Park, support for Jensen Botanical Gardens and the Sutter Community Garden, improvements to the Canine Corral, improvements to the Veteran's Memorial Hall, and many other projects.
The foundation continues to raise funds in support of programs and projects which enhance the beauty and usability of all of Carmichael's parks and support the recreational needs of the community.
