Volunteer Organization Serving Texas
At AARF Houston, we believe every dog deserves a chance—no matter their past, their condition, or the odds stacked against them.
We rescue animals from the streets, pull dogs from local shelters, and accept owner surrenders when families have nowhere else to turn. But our work doesn’t stop there. Alongside rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals, we proudly support our Veterans and low-income community by helping with vaccinations, spay, and neuter services for family pets. Because keeping pets healthy helps keep families together.
Healing Happens Here
We specialize in caring for animals who are injured, sick, or medically fragile—the ones often overlooked. Thankfully, we’re backed by an incredible army of veterinarians and specialists who step up time and time again when an animal needs help the most.
Over the years, AARF Houston has worked with some of the best veterinarians and orthopedic surgeons in Texas. Our dogs have received life-saving treatments, including parvo and distemper care, complex fracture repairs, facial reconstructions, and even successful hip replacements. Some of our rescued dogs have gone on to become blood donors, providing life-sustaining blood and plasma to help save other animals. From intensive medical care to everyday wellness, it truly takes a team.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple—but powerful:
to help as many forgotten, broken, and neglected dogs find loving homes as humanly possible.
We volunteer our time, our energy, and our hearts to make sure every dog we rescue gets a real shot at happiness. No breed is turned away. No case is too severe. We are their healing hands.
“Their Fight is Our Fight.”
Why We Do What We Do
Texas faces a serious animal homelessness crisis. In 2023 alone, it was estimated that over 1 million homeless animals were in Texas, with more than 3.1 million nationwide. Nonprofit rescue groups like AARF Houston are a critical part of the solution.
Through rescue, rehabilitation, rehoming, and community outreach—including spay and neuter assistance—we work every day to reduce suffering and create lasting change.
Be Part of the Village
None of this is possible without the support of people who care.
To continue helping abandoned and injured animals, we rely on donations, sponsors, fosters, and dedicated volunteers. Whether you choose to foster, adopt, fund raise, donate, transport, or simply spread the word—you make a difference.
Join our team. It takes a village, and we’d love for you to be part of ours.
