TAFNC was founded in 1973 with the mission to promote Taiwanese and American cultural exchange. Through a spirit of peace and harmony, our organization hopes to establish an informed and involved Taiwanese community that interacts and co-exists with other diverse groups in California. We strive to be model citizens and contribute to civic society so that future generations may be proud of our achievements. TAFNC consists of eight major Northern California Taiwanese American organizations:
East Bay Taiwanese Association (EBTA),
South East Bay Taiwanese Association (SEBTA),
Mid-Peninsula Taiwanese Association (MPTA),
San Francisco Taiwanese Association (SFTA),
Taiwanese Alliance for Interculture (TAI),
North America Taiwanese Women’s Association, N. Cal. Chapter (NATWA, N. Cal)
Senior Taiwanese Association of Northern California (STANC),
Silicon Valley Taiwanese Association (SVTAA).
TAFNC has close ties to other Taiwanese organizations such as Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA), North America Taiwanese Engineers Association (NATEA), Taiwanese Hakka Association of Northern California, North America Taiwanese Professors Association Northern California Chapter, Taiwanese American Center of Northern California, Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce-San Francisco Bay Area, Northern California School Association for Languages of Taiwan (NCSALT), Silicon Valley Taiwanese American Industrial Technology Association (TAITA-SV), Taiwan Forum of North America, North American Taiwanese Medical Association Northern California Chapter, and Taiwanese Collegiate Alumni Association of Northern California (TCAA-NC).
The Purpose of TAFNC is to:
To strengthen the coordinating function for the Taiwanese communities in Northern California; actively provide help to their members,
To help elevate the status of Taiwanese Americans and strive for their entitled benefits in the U.S., and
To promote Taiwanese culture, enhance the inter-culture exchange between Taiwan and the U.S., and contribute to American society.
TAFNC Annual Events includes:
Lunar New Year’s Celebration.
228 Memorial Service – Commemorating the 228 Incident (February 28, 1947) the worst massacre in Taiwan history.
Taiwanese Heritage Week including the Taiwanese Cultural Festival, a public platform for cultural exchange.
Program for Taiwanese American Youth Leadership (TAYL).
Veteran’s Day Parade.
July 4th Parade.
Prof. Chen Wen-Chen’s Memorial Foundation Tennis Tournament.
Other Activities Include:
Seminars to discuss everyday issues on health, education, and finances.
Social and recreational clubs.
Fundraising for international disaster relief such as the Taiwan 9/21 Earthquake, major typhoons, the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, and Hurricane Katrina.
Local community service including food bank drives and volunteering for various non-profit organizations such as the American Cancer Society, KTEH/KQED.
Supporting need-based scholarships.
Raising awareness about the democratic reform in Taiwan.
