TEATRO GRATTACIELO

Teatro Grattacielo is an innovative arts organization and the only resident opera company on New York City's Lower East Side. Operating for over three decades, the company is dedicated to the future of the art form by actively commissioning new American works, revitalizing lesser-known repertoire, and providing vital professional launchpads for emerging young artists. The organization pushes the boundaries of traditional performance through a cinematic, multidisciplinary aesthetic that frequently integrates bold design and digital projections to create immersive experiences. Furthermore, Teatro Grattacielo stands as an industry leader in its labor practices by hiring all of its artists as official company employees, ensuring they earn fair wages and receive health benefit contributions.

Deeply rooted in civic engagement, Teatro Grattacielo actively removes the barriers that keep communities from experiencing live opera, serving over 10,000 individuals annually. The company combines its fully staged productions with expansive free programming, such as public performances under the Brooklyn Bridge at Gotham Park. Through community-centered initiatives like the "Creative Tableaux" outreach program—which distributes complimentary tickets to schools, retirement centers, and veterans' organizations—Teatro Grattacielo ensures that the lyric theater remains vibrant, inclusive, and accessible to New Yorkers of all cultural and economic backgrounds.
